The Annual Race was started by concerned citizens and community organizations along the Naugatuck Valley in an effort to bring awareness to the Naugy’s continued restoration and return to a recreational river after years of industrial neglect. The Naugatuck River Watershed is a partner in the events and is one of the recipients of the donations we collect to participate in the timed race.
The Naugatuck Valley River Race has helped to foster renewed efforts to develop a safe Water Trail along the Naugatuck River. In fact, the Naugatuck River Greenway Committee, in response to the success of the first race, added several boat launches into the proposed Greenway plans in each town along the route and have added additional events.
The events brings racers and their families from all around New England to run the Naugy. As much as it is a race event, many will be paddling at their own pace — but, experienced paddlers only, as the Naugy at higher levels can be unforgiving.
Hope to see you there, and thank you for making a difference!
We would just like to thank all of the racers, vendors, Beacon Falls Lions and Lionesses, Naugatuck Valley Outdoors Club & AMC, US States Power Squadron members, race sponsors and our public supporters that help make the Annual Naugatuck Valley River Race and Beacon Falls Duck Festival a success! A special thanks to: All those work Water safety; NVOC and AMC members and all the Valley’s First Responders that help to make it a safe event every year. Thanks again to all!
